Working All Year in Our Fight Against HIV/AIDS

There are agencies and programs across the State who work with people living with HIV in Rhode Island. United as partners in a shared mission, these organizations collaborate not only at World AIDS Day, but all year long.

AIDS Care Ocean State is dedicated to providing quality housing, case management, medical and nursing care, and prevention to adults, families, adolescents and children who are affected by or at risk for HIV infection. AIDS Care Ocean State will act as an advocate for individuals and families at risk while providing those support services needed to ensure and maintain a high quality of life for the people we serve.

Family Service of Rhode Island’s (FSRI) mission is to advance equity, opportunity, and hope in our communities. We believe all children and families have limitless potential. But for those growing up surrounded by poverty, family instability, and physical or emotional stress, life is too often about survival, not possibility.

FSRI has been a pillar of support in the community since 1892. Providing services in 39 cities and towns throughout Rhode Island, our programs have grown to meet the changing needs of our community and address the gaps in services that emerge.

In 2008, AIDS Project Rhode Island became a part of FSRI.

Founded in 1985 as "The Rhode Island Project/AIDS", the first members of APRI anticipated addressing AIDS and then moving on to something else. Instead, over the last 40 years our mission has solidified: APRI is dedicated to providing a compassionate, nonjudgmental, and collaborative response to the needs of people living with, affected by, and at risk for HIV/AIDS.

The Agape Center is a program of Community Care Alliance, in Woonsocket, RI. The drop-in center provides resources in a safe confidential setting for persons living with or affected by HIV.

Sojourner House is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 by Providence residents and Brown University students who were concerned about what was then a silent epidemic: domestic and sexual violence. Thanks to the efforts of our many supporters, Sojourner House has grown from a part-time, volunteer hotline into a provider of comprehensive services available to victims of abuse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We’ve taken steps to determine how best to prioritize our future efforts to help those who are most isolated due to abuse, as well as efforts to improve systemic and institutional responses to people in abusive relationships.

Every day we receive requests for assistance from individuals in abusive relationships. Thanks to our supporters, we are able to offer support groups, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent supportive housing, sexual health advocacy, emotional support, professional and community training, and more.

The Rhode Island HIV & STI Prevention Coalition facilitates collaboration between Rhode Island professionals, community members, and agencies to promote sexual health and prevent HIV & STIs.

In addition to World AIDS Day, the Coalition is also the organizing entity for the annual Conference on Youth Sexual Health Education (CYSHE).

AIDS Quilt Rhode Island provides education and advocacy through their work with the AIDS Quilt. As new panels are completed, they in time are sent to California where they become part of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Anna's Workshop is the program facilitated by AIDS Quilt RI, where folks are able to gather together and create quilt panels for friends and loved ones. Newly created panels will be unveiled and dedicated at the "Graceful Journey's Memorial Breakfast". Through this work they also provide HIV prevention education for young people.
